What is video trichoscopy?

Video trichoscopy is a diagnostic procedure used to assess hair and scalp conditions by capturing high-resolution images and videos of hair fibres at high magnification.

How does it work?

Using our Tricholab studio and handheld Leviacam or Fotofinder Medicam we can observe the arrangement of hairs, the fibre diameter, scalp and key trichoscopy findings, allowing us to calculate or observe:

Hair density

Hair growth patterns

Health of hair follicles

By giving us the ability to conduct a detailed and thorough examination of your hair, it allows us to identify various types of hair loss and determine the most appropriate treatment option for you and your needs.

Which hair conditions can a video trichoscopy identify?

Video trichoscopy can help identify various hair conditions, including:

This allows us to determine which hair condition you have in cases where it is difficult to tell visually.

What happens after you get the results?

After we determine the hair condition through a video trichoscopy, we discuss the findings and explain the diagnosis, showing what it means for your hair health.

Based on the specific condition identified, we then develop a personalised treatment plan that may include a variety of treatment options, such as topical or oral medications.

We will also likely need to set up following appointments in order to administer the treatment discussed and monitor your hair health moving forward.

Please note about insurance

Hair loss consultations are not covered by private medical insurance and are charged on a self-pay basis. You may be able to claim some costs back from your insurer, depending on your policy.
